Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read that a possible reason behind Garland's appointment of a Special Counsel is that some members of Congress could be indicted too, so there's even more reason to distance those decisions from the DoJ. What do you think of that idea?
I vacillate between optimism and extreme cynicism on the whole thing ... sometimes in the span of just a few minutes. Doesn't help to see good arguments supporting both perspectives from lawyers who know how this kind of sausage is made either.
Wonder if the order to appoint's does 'not apply to anyone physically present on 1/6 ' would exclude all MofC, like Vichy Hawley and Cancun Cruz. It certainly does not exclude John Eastman, Stone and others. I am hoping for big fat charges against Eastman in particular, he has that Barr arrogance/pretentiousness/respectability that gets under my skin real bad.
Considering that Smith has a lot of experience going after bad politicians, I feel pretty good that the only politician in the crosshairs is not named Trump.

I read it as applying to those that broke into the Capitol, thus freeing up Smith to go after everyone else, including Congresspeople.
Considering that Smith has a lot of experience going after bad politicians, I feel pretty good that the only politician in the crosshairs is not named Trump.
If that's the case, I will very gladly trade a short delay in justice for it to target more of the masterminds.
