Things look bleak but we will find good things together.
Hi, my name is Kevin and I am a liberal and a cynic. I am starting this new publication for a few reasons:
I like to write! I do alright with verbal communication but I feel much more comfortable and expressive writing my thoughts down and interacting with others through writing.
I like politics. Sounds crazy right? Who actually likes politics? It turns out a lot people like talking politics even though it’s one of the big three things our parents always warned us about bringing up in public. Welp, I’m bringing it up in public and I hope you join me in the conversation.
I want to be proactive. This is a weird one I think. Normally I am reactive, meaning I will respond to content other people provide, i.e. Twitter, online news sites like The Washington Post, or other substacks like The Bulwark (which is definitely worth a subscription). I want to use this newsletter to start conversations I feel are important or just interesting instead of hoping that something comes up organically at the other places I visit.
The internet is full of great people. Despite what you hear and read about how awful social media and the internet are in general I know from personal experience that there are many more wonderful and thoughtful people out here than other media give credit. And I want to meet and talk to ALL of you.
I will make the following commitments:
I will publish at least twice a week. I will probably publish more often but I commit to at least twice weekly.
Even though I am cynically inclined I will always endeavor find the positive in the topic I’m writing about.
Thank you for reading this far. I am really excited to start this journey and I hope you will hop on and come with me. We’ll look at politics, society and whatever other topic I think is interesting and have something to say about.
